Small Plane Crashes into Hangar at Illinois Airport
A small Cessna plane crashed into a hangar at Dacy Airport in Harvard, Illinois, on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The incident occurred around 2 p.m. local time when the single-engine Cessna 182 veered off the taxiway and struck the building.
The Harvard Fire Protection District responded to the scene at approximately 1:20 p.m. after receiving reports of the crash and fuel leaking from the aircraft. Firefighters worked to contain the fuel spill, while local police and investigators from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office secured the area with police tape.
The pilot, who was the sole occupant of the plane, exited the aircraft without assistance and was not injured, officials confirmed. The FAA stated that the plane had been taxiing before the accident occurred.
Video footage from the scene showed damage to the hangar and the small airplane positioned near the building. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the FAA are investigating the cause of the crash. No further details have been released at this time.
