Smoke Reported Across South Florida, Investigation Underway

DELRAY BEACH, FL — Reports of a strong smell of smoke have emerged from West Boca Raton and West Delray Beach, leading to multiple calls to local authorities on Wednesday evening.
As of 8:40 p.m., the odor was detected as far east as I-95 and extended west to at least 441. Residents have reported the smell reaching south to Palmetto Park Road and north past Atlantic Avenue. However, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue has confirmed that no fire has been located.
On the scene, crews have been dispatched to investigate the smoke odor at various locations, including Via Di Veneto and Newcastle in Boca Raton, as well as Exeter and Santaluce Manor. Reports indicate that the smell is particularly strong near U.S. 441 at Clint Moore Road, in proximity to The Oaks and a PBSO substation.
Additionally, fire rescue teams are responding to Woodfield Country Club and Saturnia Isles. As of 8:21 p.m., officials from Palm Beach County Fire Rescue had not identified a source for the smoke, despite the ongoing investigation.
In a separate incident, a fatal crash occurred on Federal Highway near the Fifth Avenue shops in Boca Raton. According to BocaNewsNow.com, a man was struck by a vehicle around 7:25 p.m., despite lifesaving efforts from Boca Raton Fire Rescue. Details regarding the striking vehicle remain unclear, and authorities have reported that no other individuals were injured.
