Snowstorm Forces School and Business Closures in West Tennessee
JACKSON, Tenn. – A severe winter storm has prompted widespread closures of schools, businesses, and government offices across West Tennessee on Friday, January 10, 2025. The storm, which brought heavy snowfall and icy conditions, has created hazardous travel conditions and disrupted daily life in the region.
Local authorities have urged residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. “The roads are extremely slick, and visibility is poor due to the ongoing snowfall,” said Jackson Police Chief John Carter. “We are advising everyone to stay home unless it is absolutely necessary to go out.”
Several schools, including Jackson-Madison County School System and Union University, have announced closures for the day. “The safety of our students and staff is our top priority,” said Dr. Marlon King, Superintendent of Jackson-Madison County Schools. “We will continue to monitor the weather and provide updates as needed.”
In addition to schools, numerous businesses and government offices have also shut down. The Jackson City Hall and Madison County Courthouse are among the public facilities that will remain closed. Local businesses, including retail stores and restaurants, have also announced temporary closures to ensure the safety of their employees and customers.
Emergency services are on high alert, with additional personnel deployed to handle weather-related incidents. “We have extra crews on standby to respond to any emergencies,” said Fire Chief Max Stewart. “We are also coordinating with local shelters to provide warmth and safety for those in need.”
Residents are encouraged to check local news outlets and official websites for updates on road conditions and shelter locations. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the area, predicting continued snowfall and freezing temperatures throughout the day.
