Horizon Zero Dawn Movie Announcement Ces 2025

Sony has announced a movie adaptation of the critically acclaimed video game ‘Horizon Zero Dawn‘ during its CES 2025 press conference. The collaboration between PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures marks another step in Sony’s strategy to bring its gaming franchises to the big screen.

The announcement was made by Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, who revealed that the project is in its early stages. ‘Columbia Pictures and PlayStation Productions are at the early stages of developing a film adaptation of the award-winning Horizon Zero Dawn,’ Qizilbash said. ‘Just imagine, Aloy‘s beloved origin story set in a vibrant, far future world filled with the giant machines, brought to you for the first time on the big screen.’

‘Horizon Zero Dawn,’ developed by Guerrilla Games, is a post-apocalyptic action-adventure game that has sold over 20 million copies worldwide since its release in 2017. The game follows Aloy, a skilled hunter in a world overrun by robotic creatures, as she uncovers the mysteries of her past and the fate of humanity.

This announcement follows the success of Columbia Pictures’ 2022 film ‘Uncharted,’ starring Tom Holland as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as Victor Sullivan. The film grossed over $400 million globally, solidifying Sony’s confidence in adapting its gaming properties for cinema.

No timeframe for the ‘Horizon Zero Dawn’ film’s release was provided during the CES press conference. However, the project is expected to attract significant attention from both gaming enthusiasts and moviegoers alike.

In addition to the ‘Horizon Zero Dawn’ announcement, Sony revealed updates on other entertainment projects during the event, though details remain under wraps. The company continues to leverage its extensive portfolio of intellectual properties to expand its presence in the entertainment industry.
