New York, NY – Sophie Flay, 29, has announced that she is joining ABC News as a correspondent and an overnight anchor for ‘World News Now‘ and ‘GMA First Look.’ The news broke on Wednesday, October 29, marking a significant step in her journalism career.

Flay expressed gratitude for her time in Los Angeles, where she worked as a general assignment reporter at ABC7. “Thank you, Los Angeles, for an amazing 11 years!” she shared in a social media post.

Her father, Bobby Flay, 60, celebrated her achievement in the comments section, saying, “Your work ethic and your desire to learn from your mentors has put you in this wonderful place of opportunity and importance. It’s a parent’s dream.” Bobby shares Sophie with his ex-wife, Kate Connelly.

This isn’t the first time Bobby has praised Sophie for her hard work. During wildfires in Los Angeles in January 2025, he received numerous comments about her performance. “She was spectacular,” he said. “I was watching it 24 hours a day. She did not go to sleep. I mean, it was crazy.” Bobby highlighted how Sophie provided vital information during the crisis.

Bobby also mentioned that he feels lucky to have such an accomplished daughter. He previously told PEOPLE that he is proud of Sophie, not just for her success but also for her character. “You ask anybody that knows Sophie, they will go on and on about her. She’s a really sweet woman and she’s incredibly inclusive,” he remarked.

As Sophie prepares for this new chapter with ABC News, her family and friends will continue to cheer her on.
