South African Actress Aletta Bezuidenhout Passes Away At 76

South African actress Aletta Bezuidenhout, known for her remarkable performances in films such as Paljas and series like The Solar Circle, passed away at the age of 76. Her son, Hamilton Shamley, confirmed the sad news of her passing at 1:18 am on Tuesday.

Born in Nairobi, Kenya, Aletta Bezuidenhout later pursued a career in drama and studied at the University of Cape Town. Her talent extended beyond local productions, as she also appeared in international cinema alongside renowned actors such as Samuel L Jackson and Juliette Binoche in the movie In My Country.

Western Cape MEC of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais, expressed deep sorrow at the loss of the legendary actress. Marais praised Bezuidenhout’s exceptional acting skills and highlighted her unforgettable performance in the Afrikaans adaptation of Bertolt Brecht’s Mutter Mut und ihre Kinder.

Messages of condolences poured in from fellow actors and celebrities, including Gérard Rudolf, known for his role as Jan Mol in Paljas. Rudolf paid tribute to Bezuidenhout on social media, acknowledging her as one of the greatest talents and expressing grief over her passing.
