Springfield Library Hosts Biannual Book Sale Starting Tuesday Night

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Springfield-Greene County Library District is set to host its biannual book sale, beginning Tuesday night at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds. The event allows community members to purchase books while supporting the library.
Opening on April 30, the sale will run from Tuesday to Sunday, offering a vast collection of donated books organized by author and genre. Friends of the Library president, Shirley Lawler, emphasized the significance of literacy and access to books. “Reading can affect your frame of mind. If you can read, you have the world at your fingertips,” Lawler said.
The sale accepts only cash and checks, with all proceeds going to support the Springfield-Greene County Library District. In 2024, the Friends of the Library raised over $425,000 through previous book sales.
The affordability of the books, priced as low as $2 or $3, encourages families to purchase more titles. “Children walk through with their parents… It takes just one good read to hook you,” Lawler added, highlighting the importance of accessible reading material.
According to Lawler, fostering a love for reading is vital for personal development. “Everyone needs to read and read well and love to read. If you love to read, it can make a rainy day or a hard time much smoother,” she said.
The sale kicks off with a members-only event on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Attendees may purchase memberships for $5 at the door.
