Jay Harrington S.w.a.t. Exiles Announcement

LOS ANGELES, CA

Jay Harrington, star of CBS‘s long-running show S.W.A.T., expressed his feelings about the surprise announcement of a new spinoff series, S.W.A.T. Exiles, during an interview with TVLine. The series recently concluded its eight-season run, leaving Harrington shocked that there was no prior communication about the new project.

Harrington, who played the character David ‘Deacon’ Kay, shared that he had no indication of a spinoff while filming the final episode. He emphasized, “No. No. Not once,” noting that he only learned about Exiles a day before its public announcement on May 18. “Shemar reached out to all of us to say, ‘This is what’s going on’,” he added.

The actor acknowledged his disappointment regarding the lack of recognition for the original cast during the announcement. “If that’s the route they’re going to go, I wish it success. It’s just a fine line between ‘owed’ and ‘just let me know,’” Harrington stated.

Reflecting on his time with S.W.A.T., he noted, “I thought, truthfully, it’s show business. It’s a business.” He also appreciated the friendships he built throughout the eight years, particularly mentioning his brother, who served as a stunt double on the show. “I’ve known these people for so long,” he said.

As for whether he would consider a role in the new spinoff, he remained open to the idea. “You never say never, you never close any doors,” Harrington said. He mentioned he enjoys directing and would consider that opportunity as well.

Harrington’s character was pivotal in S.W.A.T., showcasing balance and calmness, qualities he expressed pride in portraying. “What has been so heartwarming is to see the fans’ reaction.” He hopes that his portrayal has left a lasting impression on viewers.

Looking ahead, Harrington is open to new opportunities, stating, “It’s a different world out there.” Fans will be eager to see where his career takes him next.
