Stephen D. Miller, Beloved Coach and Entrepreneur, Dies at 64

MAGNOLIA, OhioStephen D. Miller, a respected coach, entrepreneur, and community figure, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025, at the age of 64. Born on Dec. 22, 1960, in Canton, Ohio, Miller was a lifelong resident of Magnolia, where he left an indelible mark through his dedication to athletics, business, and family.

Miller graduated from Sandy Valley High School in 1979, where he earned All-Ohio Honors in track. He continued his athletic career at Mount Union College, graduating in 1984 with All-America Honors in the pole vault. His passion for sports extended into coaching, where he inspired young athletes in swimming and track at Wadsworth High School for many years.

In addition to his coaching career, Miller co-owned Alan Douglas Construction with his close friend Tod Wacker for over 25 years. After retiring in 2016, he and his wife, Jenifer Miller, opened Creekside Cottage Winery, a testament to their entrepreneurial spirit and love for their community.

Miller is survived by his wife, Jenifer; three daughters, Athena Spellman, Alicia McIntyre, and Kayla Larson; one son, Jordan Bidlingmaier; two sisters, Beth Robertson and Susan Weybrecht; two brothers, Paul Miller and Daniel Miller; and four grandchildren, Avery, Norah, Jaclyn, and Owen. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Carol Miller.

Known for his warm smile, easy-going nature, and infectious laugh, Miller was a beloved figure in his community. “Steve was a kind, generous, loving soul who touched the lives of many,” said a family spokesperson. “His positive energy and dedication to his family, friends, and athletes will be deeply missed.”
