ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Steve Howey has been cast in a recurring role for the upcoming second season of Netflix‘s “Ransom Canyon.” Howey, best known for his role as Kevin Ball on “Shameless,” will portray Levi, the half-brother of Staten Kirkland, played by Josh Duhamel.

According to Variety, Levi is described as “a mountain man of sorts who lives off the land.” Howey’s character adds a new dynamic to the show, which focuses on the lives and loves of ranching families in the Texas Hill Country.

The series, based on Jodi Thomas‘ book, follows Staten Kirkland’s complicated relationship with Quinn O’Grady, a local dancehall owner portrayed by Minka Kelly. Season 1 concluded with Quinn accepting a job in New York City, straining her relationship with Staten.

Production for Season 2 began in early October 2025 at Netflix Studios Albuquerque. Alongside Howey, the returning cast includes Duhamel, Kelly, Lizzy Greene, Garrett Wareing, Jack Schumacher, and Marianly Tejada. Newcomers Ben Robson and Heidi Engerman will join the series in recurring roles. Robson plays Oliver, who might be a new love interest for Quinn, while Engerman takes on the role of Sydney.

Showrunner April Blair has confirmed that there will be a six-month time jump in the new season. In a statement, Blair emphasized the need for the jump due to the storyline of Quinn leaving for New York City. She stated, “I think we would probably do that because she says, ‘I’m going to go away for six months.'”

The storyline will continue to explore the tensions between ranchers and the encroaching threats from developers. As described by producers, “The future of Ransom Canyon hangs in the balance as ranching dynasties continue to vie for power, and new faces arrive, threatening the lives and loves of this quaint, western town.” Producers have hinted at exhilarating developments that will emerge as the story unfolds.

While a release date for Season 2 has not been announced, if the production timeline mirrors that of the first season, fans can expect to see “Ransom Canyon” return in the fall of 2026.
