Stevie Wonder Democratic National Convention

On August 21, 2024, Stevie Wonder performed at the Democratic National Convention held in Chicago. The event focused on important issues pertaining to freedoms, including democracy, reproductive rights, and more.

Stevie Wonder urged American citizens to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris during his performance. He captivated the audience with his rendition of ‘Higher Ground,’ a song that echoes the spirit of resilience and dedication.

Additionally, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz formally accepted the vice presidential nomination on this significant evening. He is set to speak a day before Vice President Kamala Harris officially takes the stage as the party’s nominee.

The third night of the convention showcased a line-up of notable performers and speakers at the United Center. Wonder, an iconic musician, is known for intertwining his music with political themes, having previously contributed to Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign with his 1970 hit ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered.’

Other performers included country singer Maren Morris and Grammy-winner John Legend, with the latter also set to honor Prince‘s legacy during the event. Morris performed shortly before 7 p.m., following poignant remarks from the parents of Hersh Goldberg-Polin, an Israeli-American hostage involved in current global events.

Stevie Wonder was scheduled to perform early in the evening, delivering a brief address prior to his set. His anticipated performance was expected to take place during the first full hour of the convention.

John Legend was slated to perform just before Governor Walz’s remarks later in the night. Legend’s performance was expected to pay tribute to both Prince and Walz, celebrating their artistic and political contributions.

The DNC began its events earlier in the week, with conventions providing a platform for influential figures to gather and encourage citizen participation in the electoral process.
