Storms Cause Power Outages for Thousands in Central New York

ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. — Powerful storms swept through Central New York on Tuesday, leaving thousands without power. National Grid reported more than 5,000 customers in Onondaga County were affected by the outages as of 6 p.m. on April 29, 2025.
Meanwhile, Oswego County also experienced significant outages, with over 2,600 customers losing power. These outages began around noon and are linked to the severe weather rolling through the region.
“Our teams are working diligently to restore power as quickly as possible,” said a spokesperson for National Grid. “We estimate that power should be restored by around 8:45 p.m. tonight.”
National Grid serves more than 57,000 customers in Oswego County. Residents are urged to monitor the storm and stay updated on restoration efforts.
As the storms are expected to continue into the evening, safety officials recommend that people avoid unnecessary travel and stay informed about the weather forecast.
