Strong Winds To Hit Howe Sound, Bowen Island

Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for Howe Sound, specifically targeting southern sections like Bowen Island, as strong winds are expected to hit the area throughout the day and night. The winds, anticipated to be northerly at 80 km/h with gusts up to 100 km/h, have the potential to cause damage and pose risks to personal safety.

The combination of an arctic ridge of high pressure over the BC interior and the approaching Pacific front is the primary reason behind the intensity of these winds, according to Environment Canada officials. Although there may be some respite in the afternoon, the winds are expected to remain forceful throughout tonight.

As a result of the strong winds, power outages are possible, and there may be fallen tree branches. Consequently, individuals are advised to exercise caution and secure any loose items that may be vulnerable to the wind’s force.
