2026 Subaru Outback Reveal At New York Auto Show

CAMDEN, N.J., April 16, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Subaru of America, Inc. launched the fully redesigned 2026 Subaru Outback at the 2025 New York International Auto Show. This unveiling marks the vehicle’s 30th anniversary, showcasing its evolution into the seventh generation of an SUV renowned for both capability and adventure readiness.

The 2026 Outback comes equipped with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and the latest EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology, alongside upgraded features including a 12.1-inch touchscreen for Subaru Multimedia, wireless Apple CarPlay®, and Android Auto™ integration, as well as a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.

“The Outback has been a cornerstone of the Subaru brand for three decades,” said Dominick Infante, director of corporate communications. “This new iteration continues our legacy of innovation and excellence in the SUV market.”

The Outback has sold over 3 million models in the U.S., becoming a cultural icon linked to outdoor pursuits. The 2026 edition will be available in several trims, including Premium, Limited, and the new Wilderness trim, set to launch in late 2025.

In terms of exterior enhancements, the new design emphasizes a more powerful and rugged aesthetic. The front features a broader fascia and vertically positioned headlights that boost functionality, while the sides address aerodynamics and cargo capacity with an updated boxier silhouette. Raised roof rails rated for heavy loads are standard, catering to adventure enthusiasts.

The rear design includes a more ergonomic cargo space and an improved cladding that aids in both aesthetics and functionality. One notable innovation is the ability to hang items such as hammocks or clotheslines on the vehicle’s side crossbars.

Inside, Subaru has prioritized comfort and utility with materials sourced from recycled plastics. The cabin features improved sound insulation, while enhancements in the seating arrangements ensure greater comfort on long rides.

The new infotainment system is a focal point of the interior, featuring a responsive display that allows for swift navigation across various functions. The climate controls are now easier to access, especially in colder conditions.

Subaru has also included advanced safety features in the 2026 Outback, including enhanced versions of the EyeSight® technology, which utilizes forward-facing cameras and radar to facilitate a suite of driver aids, like Adaptive Cruise Control and Emergency Stop Assist.

Performance-wise, the 2026 Outback offers two engine choices: a 2.5-liter SUBARU BOXER® engine or a more robust 2.4-liter turbocharged engine available in the Outback XT models. Both engines are paired with a Lineartronic® CVT and enhanced with a revised X-MODE® system for improved off-road capabilities.

“The new steering system provides a more responsive and natural drive, making it easier to handle at various speeds,” said Aaron Cole, product communications manager. The vehicle maintains an impressive ground clearance of 8.7 inches, ensuring ease in navigating rugged terrains.

Subaru plans to release detailed specifications and pricing closer to the vehicle’s launch in late 2025, promising to deliver a superior adventure-ready SUV experience.
