Subnautica 2 Announcement

The ocean exploration sequel, Subnautica 2, was officially announced at the Xbox Partner Preview event, marking its anticipated arrival on PC and Xbox Series X and S in 2025. The game will be accessible via the Xbox Game Preview program and will feature on Game Pass from its release day, providing ample opportunity for players to dive into the underwater adventure.

This latest installment in the Subnautica franchise will introduce players to an entirely new planet, characterized by unfamiliar environments, plants, and animal life. For the first time, the game will support cooperative play for up to four players, enhancing the exploration experience.

During the event, Donya Abrams, Community Manager at Unknown Worlds, shared insights about the game. “Whether you’re bringing the experience of your previous adventures with you, or are new to the Subnautica games,” Abrams explained, “you’ll get to explore lush new environments, encounter fascinating creatures around every corner, and uncover the secrets at the core of this mysterious planet. But as familiar as things might seem to seasoned players at first glance, Subnautica 2 will offer new and unique experiences that will keep you on your… fins.”

Unknown Worlds has clarified that the cooperative play in Subnautica 2 remains an optional feature, ensuring that the core single-player experience remains untouched. The previous title, Subnautica: Below Zero, launched in 2021, received critical acclaim, scoring nine out of ten according to IGN.

The franchise, which became a breakout success with its initial release in early access in 2014, has sold over five million copies as of January 2020. The series saw a significant resurgence in popularity during the pandemic, primarily driven by streamers showcasing the game.
