Sunset Boulevard Dominates the Olivier Awards: Winners Revealed at Prestigious Ceremony

This evening witnessed the announcement of the winners of the much-anticipated Olivier Awards at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall. Hosted by the talented Hannah Waddingham, the event celebrated the outstanding achievements in the world of theatre.

Sunset Boulevard emerged as the biggest winner of the night, securing seven awards, with Tom Francis and Nicole Scherzinger clinching the Best Actor and Actress in a Musical titles. Jamie Lloyd was honored with the Sir Peter Hall Award, and the musical also bagged the Best Musical Revival accolade.

With stellar performances throughout the evening, including acts from Groundhog Day Australia, the ceremony showcased the talent and vibrancy of London’s theatre scene.

Operation Mincemeat was the recipient of the Mastercard Best New Musical award, with David Cumming, Felix Hagan, Natasha Hodgson, and Zoë Roberts behind its music, lyrics, and book. The night was filled with deserving winners and competitive categories.

The Best Actor and Best Actress awards were presented to Mark Gatiss for his role in The Motive And The Cue and Sarah Snook for her outstanding performance in The Picture Of Dorian Gray, marking her West End debut.

Other notable mentions include Amy Trigg for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Musical for her role in The Little Big Things, and Arlene Phillips alongside James Cousins for their choreography in Guys & Dolls, which won The Gillian Lynne Award.

In a touching moment, the industry honored the late Haydn Gwynne, who posthumously won the Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actress for When Winston Went to War with The Wireless, with a heartfelt tribute paid to her by her children.

Special accolades and performances marked the 60th anniversary of The National Theatre, showcasing the immense talent and impact it has had on the arts. The evening concluded with a rousing rendition of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ from the musical Carousel.

The Olivier Awards, in collaboration with Mastercard for the 14th year, presented a night of celebration, recognition, and outstanding talent in the world of theatre.
