Support for Vice President Harris from Doug Emhoff’s Ex-Wife Amid Election Developments
The ex-wife of Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, Kerstin Emhoff, has publicly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris while also expressing criticism towards former First Lady Melania Trump. This comes as former President Donald Trump prepares for a potential comeback in the upcoming election.
Melania Trump could be returning to the White House if her husband, Donald Trump, successfully secures the Republican nomination, taking on Harris, who is expected to be the Democratic nominee. Harris is anticipated to formally accept the nomination during her speech on August 22.
Kerstin Emhoff, mother to son Cole and daughter Ella with Doug Emhoff, has consistently defended Harris amid attacks from Trump and his supporters leading up to the election. She remarked on her relationship with Harris, stating, “For over 10 years, since Cole and Ella were teenagers, Kamala has been a co-parent with Doug and I. She is loving, nurturing, fiercely protective, and always present.”
Recently, Kerstin Emhoff took to social media to address comparisons between her support for Harris and Melania Trump’s current support for Donald Trump. Retweeting a post that garnered 2.6 million views, Kerstin Emhoff expressed, “Damn right [oncoming fist emoji].” Her original photo shared from the Democratic National Convention also went viral, highlighting her enthusiasm for the event.
Since Donald Trump’s presidency ended on January 20, 2021, Melania Trump has mostly maintained a low profile, missing several significant events and legal proceedings involving her husband. This is a contrast to her active role during Trump’s 2016 campaign.
Kerstin and Doug Emhoff were married from 1992 to 2008 before Doug wed Harris in 2014. Kerstin is the founder and CEO of the production company Prettybird and has been acknowledged as maintaining a positive relationship with Doug. In her memoir, Harris expressed her admiration for Kerstin, stating they became friends after getting to know each other.
The blending of family dynamics is something Harris has addressed positively. In 2020, she commented on the importance of love within blended families, emphasizing that it can lead to functional relationships.
