Susan Olsen Claims ‘Brady Bunch’ Revival Canceled Due to Her Controversial Political Views
Susan Olsen, the actress who played Cindy Brady in the iconic family sitcom ‘The Brady Bunch,’ has revealed that a planned revival of the show was canceled due to her controversial political views. In a recent interview with the Walk Away Campaign podcast, Olsen stated that her past comments on Donald Trump, COVID-19 vaccines, and LGBTQ issues were among the reasons CBS decided not to include her in the reboot.
Olsen, who has become a talk-radio host since her days on ‘The Brady Bunch,’ mentioned that CBS compiled a 50-page dossier of her past remarks, which led to the decision to exclude her from the project. Despite the controversy, Olsen expressed no regret over her statements, saying, “Those 50 pages were my greatest hits. I stand by everything I said.”
The planned revival aimed to model itself after the 2018 ‘Roseanne‘ revival, featuring a family with diverse political opinions. In this version, Greg Brady would have been portrayed as a Reagan Republican, Jan Brady as a liberal, and Cindy Brady as a libertarian podcaster, reflecting Olsen’s own political leanings. However, CBS ultimately decided against moving forward with Olsen involved.
This is not the first time Olsen has faced backlash for her views. In 2016, she was fired from her Los Angeles talk radio show ‘Two Chicks Talkin’ Politics’ after an altercation with a guest and the subsequent revelation of homophobic slurs she allegedly used in a private message. This incident was also cited as one of the concerns by CBS regarding her involvement in the ‘Brady Bunch’ reboot.
Representatives from CBS have not commented on Olsen’s claims. The cancellation of her involvement marks a significant setback for the planned revival, which had garnered interest following the success of the HGTV miniseries ‘A Very Brady Renovation’ in 2019.
