Suspect in Joliet Shooting Rampage Found Dead in Texas
A shocking spree of shootings in Joliet, Illinois, came to a tragic end on Monday night as the suspect, Romeo Nance, was found dead in Natalia, Texas. The 23-year-old suspect’s body was discovered shortly after the bodies of seven victims were found in two homes in Joliet. This horrific crime scene has left authorities in disbelief, with Joliet Police Chief Bill Evans describing it as the worst he has ever encountered in his 29-year career.
Nance, who was already wanted for two shootings on Sunday, including a fatal one in Joliet Township, had fled to Texas before law enforcement located him. It is believed that Nance took his own life with a handgun during a confrontation with Texas law enforcement officials. The U.S. Marshals had been involved in the search for Nance.
The first shooting on Sunday occurred at the Pheasant Run Apartments in Joliet Township, where 28-year-old Toyosi Bakare was found with a gunshot wound to the head. Bakare later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. Just an hour before that, a 42-year-old man sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg on Davis Street in Joliet.
These two incidents swiftly led detectives to link Nance to the homicides on West Acres Road. Nance was known to all the victims found in the two homes, which were located across the street from his last known address. The suspect was believed to have been driving a red Toyota Camry, which was also connected to the initial Sunday shootings in Joliet.
The intense investigation by the Will County Sheriff's Office and the Joliet Police Department aims to determine the motive behind these tragic events. As of now, no motive has been established, but Chief Evans believes there is some correlation between the Sunday shootings and the crime scene discovered on Monday.
