The Eastern Cape is currently embroiled in a urgent search for Alize van der Merwe, who was reportedly kidnapped while en route to Umngazi Resort. The incident occurred last Friday as she traveled from East London towards the Wild Coast, raising concerns over safety on the N2 highway.

Specialist investigator Mike Bolhuis has been actively involved in attempting to piece together the events leading to van der Merwe’s disappearance. According to his statement, the victim was making the journey in a white rented Toyota Fortuner, registered under LX73KLGP, rented from Hertz Vehicle Hire.

“Her last known communication with family was at around 11:30 AM on Friday,” stated Bolhuis. “She mentioned plans to stop at the Shell Ultra City in Mthatha on the N2.” However, by 3:13 PM, distressing news reached her family—a call informed them of her kidnapping, though no additional details were provided.

Further investigation revealed that tracking data had located the vehicle abandoned somewhere between Dumasi and the Umngazi Resort, a clue that has urged local authorities and investigators to intensify their search efforts.

Authorities are appealing to the public for assistance, urging anyone with information to contact Specialised Security Services. This developing situation has shocked the local community, highlighting the imperative need for increased safety measures on the region’s roadways.
