Joint Base Andrews Suspicious Package Investigation

Joint Base Andrews, Maryland — A suspicious package delivered to a U.S. military base caused several individuals to fall ill and required hospital treatment on Thursday. The incident occurred when a person opened the package, prompting an evacuation of the building.

According to a statement from Joint Base Andrews, which is located outside Washington, D.C., both the building and a connecting structure were evacuated as a precaution. A cordon was established around the area. First responders from Joint Base Andrews quickly attended to the scene and confirmed there were no immediate threats, later transferring control to the Office of Special Investigations.

Multiple individuals were transported to the Malcolm Grove Medical Center on the base after exposure to an unknown white powder found in the package. Two sources familiar with the investigation reported that an initial field test conducted by a HAZMAT team did not identify any hazardous material; however, the probe is ongoing.

The room where the envelope was opened, located within the Air National Guard Readiness Center, remains closed. Investigators are also examining the potential presence of political propaganda included in the package.

Joint Base Andrews serves as a vital hub for military and government officials, including the president and vice president. Notably, President Donald Trump was at the base on Wednesday. The Air National Guard Readiness Center acts as a liaison between the National Guard Bureau and various Air National Guard units across the country.

The situation is developing, and further details are expected to emerge as the investigation proceeds.
