Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried to Star in Lionsgate Thriller ‘The Housemaid’
Hollywood actors Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are set to star in an upcoming film adaptation of Freida McFadden‘s bestselling novel, “The Housemaid.” The psychological thriller is to be directed by Paul Feig, known for his work on “Bridesmaids” and “A Simple Favor,” and is being produced by Lionsgate.
In the film, Sweeney will portray Millie, a young woman seeking a fresh start as a housemaid for the affluent couple Nina, played by Seyfried, and Andrew. However, as the narrative unfolds, Millie discovers that the couple harbors secrets far more perilous than her own challenges. This production aims to capture the suspenseful elements that have enthralled readers globally.
“I’m thrilled to have ‘The Housemaid’ join our upcoming slate,” expressed Adam Fogelson, chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. “A great filmmaker and a great cast with a great script from a great book is a terrific place to start. My prior work experiences with Paul and Amanda have been nothing short of spectacular, and Sydney is as talented and compelling as can be.”
The screenplay is being adapted by Rebecca Sonnenshine. The film will see Hidden Pictures‘ Todd Lieberman as a producer, with Carly Kleinbart Elter overseeing the project. Additionally, Feig and Laura Fischer are producing, with Chelsea Kujawa and Erin Jones-Wesley supervising for Lionsgate. Robert Melnik handled the negotiations for the studio.
The original novel has garnered widespread acclaim, maintaining a presence on the New York Times bestseller list for over a year and achieving significant sales benchmarks, including 3.6 million copies sold in English and translations into 40 languages. Erin Westerman, co-president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, commented, “Part of the fun of the book was imagining the cast while we read it, and Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are perfect for Millie and Nina—they’re both mysterious, nuanced, and incredibly skilled at becoming characters who don’t reveal everything right away.”
Sydney Sweeney is renowned for her critically acclaimed performances in “Euphoria” and “The White Lotus,” while Amanda Seyfried most recently won an Emmy for her work in the Hulu series “The Dropout.” The assembling of this high-profile cast and crew has positioned “The Housemaid” as a hotly anticipated film in Lionsgate’s upcoming lineup.
