Sylvester Stallone Reveals Lingering Health Issues Stemming from ‘The Expendables’ Stunt, Continues Battle with Injuries
Hollywood icon Sylvester Stallone opened up about the long-lasting physical consequences he has faced following a stunt mishap on the set of ‘The Expendables’, revealing the harrowing toll it has taken on his health over the years.
During the premiere episode of the second season of ‘The Family Stallone’, Stallone candidly discussed the aftermath of an ill-fated scene involving a tackle by his co-star and wrestling legend Steve Austin in the action-packed film franchise.
The incident left Stallone grappling with dislocated shoulders and a fractured neck, leading him to undergo a staggering seven back surgeries so far, with more procedures on the horizon.
Among the medical interventions necessitated by the stunt-gone-wrong were the insertion of a metal plate in Stallone’s neck and multiple spinal fusions to address the enduring impact of the injury.
Reflecting on the severity of the situation, Stallone remarked, ‘I did stupid stuff… I could actually feel one bang. Steve knew.’ He went on to caution against actors attempting their own stunts, emphasizing the inherent risks involved.
Expressing her concerns for Stallone’s well-being, his wife, Jennifer Flavin, described the recurring surgeries as a ‘scary time’, shedding light on the actor’s reluctance to publicize the extent of his medical struggles. Flavin expressed hope that the latest surgery could bring her husband some relief.
The Stallone family’s ordeal was further illuminated by Stallone’s daughter, Scarlet, who shared poignant insights into her father’s enduring pain and resilience. Scarlette admitted, ‘My whole childhood, he was in pain’, underscoring Stallone’s unwavering determination to persevere through the physical challenges.
‘The Expendables’, which saw its inception in 2010 under Stallone’s direction and leadership, marked a star-studded ensemble featuring the likes of Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Terry Crews, and Mickey Rourke among others in its explosive cast.
‘The Family Stallone’ is currently streaming exclusively on Paramount+, offering viewers an intimate glimpse into the renowned actor’s personal and professional life.
