Taco Bell Revives Popular Double Decker Taco for Limited Time

Taco Bell, the popular California-based fast-food chain, has announced the return of its renowned Double Decker Taco. This fan-favorite menu item will make a limited-time appearance starting October 10, but it will only be available nationwide until October 30, 2024. This announcement has been met with enthusiasm from fans who have long awaited its comeback to the menu since its discontinuation in 2019.

The Double Decker Taco is a layered creation consisting of a crunchy taco shell filled with seasoned beef, fresh lettuce, and shredded cheddar cheese, wrapped in a soft flour tortilla with a layer of warm refried beans. The Double Decker Taco Supreme, a variation of the original, includes additional ingredients such as diced tomatoes and reduced-fat sour cream. Both options will be available at the revised price of $2 and $2.69, respectively, which is lower than their prices during a previous limited release in December 2023.

The decision to bring back the Double Decker Taco follows a successful vote executed by Taco Bell in October 2022, where fans were given the chance to choose a discontinued item to resurrect. Although the Enchirito won the vote, the loud and persistent demand for the Double Decker Taco on social media prompted the chain to reconsider and reintroduce it now. Taylor Montgomery, Taco Bell’s Chief Marketing Officer, stated, “The insane amount of love for this product from fans across our social platforms was impossible to ignore. We listened to our fans and knew we couldn’t deny them the joy of the Double Decker Taco any longer.”

October 2024 has proven to be a busy month for Taco Bell. In addition to the Taco revival, the company successfully lobbied to change National Taco Day to the first Tuesday of October annually, aligning it with Taco Tuesday celebrations. This move was supported by Marlo Anderson, the founder of National Day Calendar, who expressed excitement about the change, emphasizing the unifying potential it holds for taco enthusiasts.

Fans of the Double Decker Taco are advised to enjoy the item during this brief period, as its availability after October 30 remains uncertain. Nevertheless, for those who miss it, a “DIY Double Decker” recipe has received favorable reviews from those who have recreated it at home.
