Mohammed Nijem House Straps Hurricane Milton

A Tampa resident has captured widespread attention online after an image showcasing his unconventional hurricane preparations went viral on social media. The man, identified as Mohammed Nijem, took the unusual step of strapping his entire house down with enormous yellow straps ahead of Hurricane Milton, turning him into an internet sensation.

Spectrum Bay News 9 initially posted the image on X, formerly known as Twitter. The post detailed Nijem’s distinctive method of readiness for the incoming storm, which involves securing his one-story home with six large straps. These straps are fixed over the roof and anchored into the ground on both sides, in hopes of protecting the structure from Hurricane Milton’s destructive power.

Reactions to Nijem’s innovative approach have been widespread, with the post having been viewed over 1.8 million times. Many users praised his ingenuity, labeling him a “legend” for his proactive and creative thinking. Others humorously suggested that his house might become the last standing amidst devastation, turning Milton’s arrival into a source of both tension and entertainment online.

Hurricane Milton, currently a significant threat to Florida, is advancing with heavy rains and formidable winds. The storm is projected to make landfall as a Category 4 hurricane, potentially bringing winds of up to 130 mph. Forecasters have particularly emphasized concerns over a storm surge, which they predict could reach a record-breaking height of 12 feet.

Due to the severity forecasted, authorities have mandated evacuations across 11 counties in Florida, impacting approximately 5.9 million residents. Officials have clarified that individuals choosing to stay must prepare to manage without external aid.
