Technical Issues Force British Airways Flight to Return to London

LONDON, United Kingdom — A Chennai-bound British Airways flight returned to London’s Heathrow Airport on June 15, 2025, due to a technical issue shortly after takeoff.
The airline confirmed that the aircraft made the precautionary return as its crew reported complications. “The flight landed safely with crew and customers disembarking as they normally would, and our teams are working hard to get their journeys back on track as soon as possible,” British Airways stated.
British Airways flight BA35 had departed Heathrow at 1:16 PM local time after a 36-minute delay. Flight tracking data from Flightradar24 indicated that the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner circled over the Strait of Dover several times before returning to Heathrow.
In another incident, a Lufthansa flight bound for Hyderabad also returned to its base mid-air after a technical glitch was reported, although specifics surrounding that situation remain unclear.
The Lufthansa flight, a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, departed Frankfurt but received a message from Air Traffic Control at Hyderabad indicating a potential issue, prompting it to return.
Following these events, domestic airline Air India faced scrutiny as its aircraft returned to Hong Kong shortly after taking off. The airline stated that they are conducting checks as a precaution to ensure passenger safety.
With these incidents, multiple flights involving Boeing 787 Dreamliners have faced complications in a short span, raising concerns among carriers about these aircraft models.
