Teen Hospitalized After Shooting Near Akins High School

AUSTIN, Texas — A teenager was hospitalized Tuesday afternoon following a shooting outside Akins High School in South Austin. The Austin Police Department reported that officers were dispatched to the shooting incident near a bus stop in the 10700 block of S. First St. at approximately 2:22 p.m.
Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement officials discovered a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical responders from Austin-Travis County EMS transported the injured teenager to a local trauma center. The injuries were reported as serious and potentially life-threatening.
In the wake of the shooting, police were able to locate and detain a suspect nearby. However, details regarding the suspect’s identity or connection to the victim have not been disclosed as the investigation remains active.
Authorities are continuing their inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the shooting but have not released additional information at this time.
