Teen Injured in Sydney Train Incident, Major Delays on Key Lines
A teenage boy has suffered head injuries in an incident involving a train in Sydney, causing significant disruptions to the city’s train network. Services on the T3 Bankstown Line, T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line, and South Coast Line have been canceled between Sydenham and Redfern as a result of the incident.
The incident took place near St Peters Station at around 5.45 am when emergency services responded to reports of a teenager injured in the rail corridor. According to witnesses, the boy fell off the train onto the tracks while traveling with a friend, who quickly alerted transport staff.
The injured teen has been transported to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a serious condition. As a result of the incident, train delays of up to 40 minutes have been reported on the South Coast Line, with trains also making unscheduled stops at different stations. Sydney Trains has advised commuters to consider alternative transportation options to reach their destinations on time.
In a separate incident last week, a trailer was deliberately placed across the rail tracks at Vineyard near Windsor, causing a city-bound train carrying 29 passengers to collide with it. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Following investigations, a 16-year-old boy was arrested on Monday and charged with multiple offenses, including an intent to harm or injure people on the railway, drug possession, handling stolen property, and car theft.
Transport for NSW has urged commuters to allow extra travel time and consider utilizing nearby public transport services until the incident has been resolved.
