Teenager Dies in Tragic Bus Crash in Brisbane CBD
An 18-year-old woman tragically lost her life after a devastating bus accident in the heart of Brisbane‘s CBD. The incident occurred just after 5pm when the bus driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to mount a kerb and pinning the teenager against the ANZAC Square Arcade.
Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene at the corner of Edward Street and Ann Street, with paramedics working tirelessly to attend to the young woman’s life-threatening injuries. Despite their efforts, the woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene, as confirmed by the authorities.
Authorities have confirmed that at the time of the crash, there were only nine individuals on board the bus. All passengers were promptly assessed by paramedics, with five of them subsequently transported to the hospital for minor injuries. The driver, who was described as ‘suffering the affects of shock,’ also received medical attention.
Nine ambulance crews were on-site to assist in what Senior Sergeant Steve Watterson described as a ‘horrendous scene’. Queensland’s Premier Steven Miles expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased through a message on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
Furthermore, Brisbane’s Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner issued a statement in response to the tragic incident, referring to it as a ‘truly devastating incident.’ He extended his sympathy to all those affected, emphasizing the shock felt by the entire Brisbane community in the wake of the heartbreaking news.
Following the incident, the bus was eventually towed away from the scene around 9pm local time, alleviating significant traffic disruptions that had ensued for several hours in the area.
