Tensions Arise as ‘Strictly 2024’ Launches with Rumored Celebrity Feuds
The new season of “Strictly Come Dancing” has commenced with a flutter of intrigue as rumors of discord among the show’s celebrity contestants surface. Notably, a social media interaction, or lack thereof, has fans talking. Olympian Montell Douglas, who also appeared on “Gladiators,” is at the center of these speculations. Fans have observed that Douglas has not reciprocated a follow on Instagram to fellow contestant Nick Knowles, a popular host known for “DIY SOS.” The lack of social media engagement has fueled rumors of a potential rift, though no concrete reasons have been provided for the perceived snub.
Meanwhile, Knowles himself has added to the social buzz by not following Jamie Borthwick, another contestant, despite connecting with nearly all other participants of the dance show.
This year’s roster for “Strictly Come Dancing,” aiming to claim the illustrious Glitterball Trophy, includes an eclectic mix of personalities such as Sam Quek MBE, JB Gill, Jamie Borthwick, Nick Knowles, Chris McCausland, Wynne Evans, Toyah Willcox, Dr. Punam Krishan, Shayne Ward, Sarah Hadland, Tom Dean MBE, Montell Douglas, and Paul Merson. The selection has prompted some criticism due to the gender imbalance, with six female celebrities compared to nine male contestants.
A response from the show’s organizers outlined their efforts to create a diverse and dynamic lineup. “We are really excited about this year’s lineup and look forward to the series starting,” remarked a spokesperson. They emphasized that “there is no hard and fast rule regarding the gender split on the show and it’s never been about ticking boxes.” They assured fans that this season promises “extra special” elements with added “glitz, glamour and unforgettable performances.”
Away from the drama, Jamie Borthwick, known for his portrayal in “EastEnders,” recently spoke about an amusing tale from his younger years. In a candid recounting, he admitted to having a childhood crush on his co-star, Emma Barton, who played Honey Mitchell, and making an embarrassing attempt at expressing his admiration. Borthwick humorously recalled being encouraged by colleague Perry Fenwick to make his feelings known, resulting in a memorable gaffe that the cast still laughs about today.
