Tesco Recalls Chocolate Bars Over Undeclared Peanuts, Posing Health Risk For Allergy Sufferers

Tesco has issued an urgent recall on two of its own-brand chocolate bars after concerns that they may contain undeclared peanuts, potentially posing a health risk to individuals with peanut allergies. The recalled products include the Tesco Nutty Nougat Caramel Chocolate Bars Multipack and Tesco Dreamy Caramel Chocolate Bars Multipack.

This recall, prompted by a mispack, has raised fears of a serious health threat to those allergic to peanuts. Even minor exposure to peanuts for individuals with such allergies can lead to severe reactions, ranging from hives and swelling to potentially life-threatening anaphylactic shock, necessitating immediate medical attention.

The Anaphylaxis Campaign, a prominent organization aiding allergy sufferers, highlighted the gravity of anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction impacting multiple bodily systems. Symptoms can onset rapidly, with possible delays in rare cases, encompassing a range of manifestations affecting the airways, heart, circulation, gut, and skin.

The Government has shared the urgent warning issued by the Food Standards Agency regarding the recalled chocolate bars. Individuals who have purchased these products are advised not to consume them and to return them to any Tesco store for a full refund.

Tesco has taken proactive steps in recalling the products from customers and has engaged with allergy support organizations, including issuing detailed recall notices to inform consumers of the potential health risk. The affected products had insufficient labeling regarding the presence of peanuts, which is a critical allergen for many individuals.
