Tesla Driver Embarks on Epic Journey to Everest Base Camp Using FSD

LHASA, TIBET — A brave Tesla Model 3 owner has embarked on a remarkable journey from Henan Province, China, to the base camp of Mount Everest using the vehicle’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology. The almost 4,000-kilometer (2,485-mile) trip showcases the potential of Tesla’s FSD and has been live-streamed on Douyin, a popular Chinese social media platform.
The driver, who is an avid Tesla enthusiast, highlighted the challenges of the scenic route, which features difficult terrain where many drivers need supplementary oxygen. Recent updates indicate that the Model 3 is on track to reach its destination soon, possibly by Friday.
This isn’t the first time a Tesla has made this trek. A prior journey to Everest’s base camp involved a manually driven Model 3, which covered approximately 5,500 kilometers (3,400 miles). In 2021, Tesla China completed the installation of 11 Supercharger stations along the picturesque road between Chengdu and Tingri, facilitating these long-distance travels.
In July 2022, a Model X and Model Y successfully made it to the Everest base camp without complications, reinforcing Tesla’s strong performance in extreme conditions. Since then, other Tesla owners have undertaken similar journeys, showcasing the vehicles’ capabilities.
The ongoing journey highlights the advances in autonomous driving technology and its application in challenging environments. It marks a significant moment for Tesla and the electric vehicle industry, pushing the boundaries further than ever before.
