The highly anticipated 2025 Tesla Model Y, codenamed ‘Juniper,’ has been spotted undisguised in spy photos, revealing a refreshed design ahead of its expected global debut. The updated electric SUV, captured in Northeast China during winter testing, features a redesigned front end, a sleek rear light bar, and a sportier bumper, distinguishing it from its sedan sibling, the Model 3.

Images shared on social media confirm the Model Y refresh will not mirror the Model 3’s design. Instead, it introduces a split headlight design with upper daytime-running lights and lower main beams, separated by a light bar across the nose. The rear end showcases a new tailgate with a full-width light bar and ‘TESLA’ script, along with a redesigned bumper housing the license plate.

While the front bumper resembles the latest Model 3 Performance, the wheels appear to be a new 19-inch design for standard variants, differing from the 21-inch wheels on the current Model Y Performance. Production of the updated Model Y is reportedly ramping up in China, with reduced wait times in European markets suggesting buyers will receive the new model rather than the outgoing version.

Tesla is expected to unveil full details in the coming weeks, with the updated Model Y likely to hit showrooms two to three months after its global debut. The refresh is anticipated to include an upgraded interior, featuring a larger touchscreen, ventilated front seats, and the removal of steering column stalks, with indicators and gear selection moved to the steering wheel and touchscreen, respectively.

The 2025 Model Y refresh comes at a critical time for Tesla, which saw its first year-over-year sales decline since 2011 in 2024. Despite the global EV market’s growth, Tesla’s stagnant model lineup and CEO Elon Musk‘s polarizing public persona have contributed to the company’s challenges. The updated Model Y aims to reinvigorate Tesla’s position as the world’s top-selling EV manufacturer.
