Three Dead in Monrovia House Fire, Firefighters Injured
Three people died in a devastating house fire on Forestbrook Drive in Monrovia, Alabama, early Tuesday morning, according to Madison County Coroner Tyler Berryhill. The fire, which broke out before dawn, also injured two firefighters when the second floor of the home collapsed.
Monrovia Volunteer Fire Rescue spokesperson James Filley reported that crews arrived to find flames engulfing the front door. Firefighters battled the blaze, but the structure’s second floor gave way, trapping two responders. Both were treated by emergency personnel and are expected to recover.
Filley stated that the home, which may have housed four or five residents, is likely a total loss. The identities of the victims have not yet been released, and autopsies are scheduled to determine the causes of death.
An investigation into the fire’s origin and cause is ongoing. Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area as crews continue their work. The incident marks one of the deadliest residential fires in the region in recent years.
