Three Tornadoes Confirmed in Michigan, Damage Reported

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed that three tornadoes touched down across Michigan on Thursday night. An EF-0 tornado was reported between Kalamazoo and Calhoun counties, with wind speeds reaching up to 80 mph.
This tornado traveled east from Galesburg to Battle Creek, causing damage to the area. Additionally, another EF-0 tornado touched down near St. Mary’s Lake, just north of Battle Creek. Another EF-1 tornado was confirmed north of Charlotte, moving in an eastward direction towards Lansing.
NWS crews will begin surveying storm damage on Friday and continue through the weekend. More storms are expected to hit West Michigan Friday night, although meteorologists at News Channel 3 indicate that severe conditions similar to those on Thursday are not likely.
Officials reported no fatalities from the tornadoes, but there was damage to trees and properties. In Livingston County, an EF-1 tornado was detected between Stockbridge and Gregory, lasting approximately two minutes with peak winds of 90 mph.
In the Genesee County area, an EF-0 tornado touched down near Atlas, damaging structures along Maple Avenue and Atlas Road and lasting around three minutes with winds peaking at 75 mph. Another EF-0 was confirmed in Saginaw County, impacting St. Charles and lasting about five minutes with estimated peak winds of 85 mph.
So far in 2025, Michigan has faced above-average tornado activity with 14 tornadoes reported during severe weather on March 30, exceeding the annual average of 16 tornadoes. Two additional tornadoes were confirmed in Branch County on April 2.
