Tig Notaro And Cheryl Hines Friendship

LOS ANGELES, CA – Comedian Tig Notaro announced on Tuesday that she has ended her long-standing friendship with actress Cheryl Hines due to differences in political views stemming from Hines’ husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and his presidential campaign.

Notaro discussed their friendship during an episode of her podcast, highlighting their past collaborations which included co-hosting “Tig and Cheryl: True Story.” While praising Hines as one of her favorite friends, Notaro felt compelled to step away as Kennedy began his presidential campaign.

“Cheryl’s married to Bobby Kennedy Jr.,” Notaro said. “When he was announcing his run, I just felt like I needed to step away, because there are beliefs that were like a gnat on the arm years ago that were getting further into the spotlight.”

Notaro recalled that their friendship began before Hines married Kennedy in 2014. However, tensions escalated when Kennedy endorsed then-candidate Donald Trump for president in 2024. “He was in environmental law. And, again, other beliefs he had were like a gnat on my arm. But then it started to grow,” Notaro explained.

She noted that Hines encouraged her to hear Kennedy out, but Notaro felt uncomfortable. “I just didn’t trust it. And then he endorsed Trump, and then it just got hard,” she added.

Representatives for both Notaro and Hines were approached for comment. Hines’ representatives declined to provide a statement.

Throughout the campaign, Hines largely avoided discussing political issues publicly. In a 2024 interview, she acknowledged that while political disagreements exist in her marriage, open communication is crucial.

“One of the things that I’ve learned about politics is you’re not going to agree with somebody about everything, and it’s OK,” Hines said.

As Notaro moves forward, she remains outspoken about her values, citing the growing divide as her reason to prioritize her principles over personal relationships.
