Today Show's Savannah Guthrie Releases New Book 'mostly What God Does'

Today Show’s co-anchor Savannah Guthrie has embarked on a new venture outside the realm of morning television, with the release of her latest book entitled ‘Mostly What God Does: Reflections on Seeking and Finding His Love Everywhere’.

Guthrie, 52, shared that the writing process was a personal challenge for her as she delved into themes of faith, love, hope, and purpose from her own perspective as a Christian. Despite not being a theologian or religious scholar, she felt compelled to explore her faith, describing it as her core passion that guides her through life’s joys and challenges.

In her book’s foreword, Guthrie outlines the roadmap she follows, based on six foundational aspects of a connection to God, including the prevalent theme of love. She emphasizes that ‘Mostly What God Does is love you’, a message rooted in her belief system and reinforced by scholar and pastor Eugene Peterson. Guthrie’s faith journey is deeply intertwined with her personal experiences, from childhood as a Baptist in a church-centric family to navigating through adult trials and triumphs.

Prior to ‘Mostly What God Does’, Guthrie authored children’s books and declined several offers for other writing projects until the opportunity arose to pen a book on faith. Her decision was driven by the profound impact of her faith on her life, prompting her to embark on a meaningful journey of self-discovery and connection.

While the book is not a memoir, Guthrie candidly addresses some of her own struggles, including professional challenges and personal hardships such as divorce. Through seasons of devout study and moments of doubt, she found that belief and disappointment are integral parts of her faith narrative.

Guthrie hopes her book resonates with readers regardless of their beliefs, offering a message of love and hope amid life’s uncertainties. She emphasizes that hope, a conscious choice rooted in faith, sustains her through difficulty and uncertainty, leading her to choose optimism over despondency in life’s uncertainties.

As Guthrie navigates her faith alongside her Jewish husband, Mike Feldman, and their children, Vale and Charley, she instills values of love and spirituality in their family routines. Sharing bedtime prayers with her kids and inspiring their own connections with God, Guthrie hopes to provide them with a foundation for their spiritual journeys as they grow.

With ‘Mostly What God Does’, Savannah Guthrie offers an intimate reflection on faith, love and hope that extends beyond religious boundaries, inviting readers to explore the depth of divine affection and enduring optimism that sustains her through life’s challenges.
