Toledo Ohio Trash Filled Property Havre Street

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – The owner of a house at 419 Havre Street failed to appear in court Wednesday, delaying efforts to clean up the property, which is surrounded by piles of garbage. The owner, who resides in Colorado, was scheduled to face housing court Judge Joseph Howe but did not attend the hearing.

Residents in the neighborhood expressed frustration over the ongoing issue. “Itu2019s an inappropriate style of living that the neighbors in the area shouldnu2019t be forced to be subject to,” said one neighbor. “People constantly trying to break in, yelling and screaming all night, and police showing up u2014 itu2019s too much for me and my family.”

City documents obtained by 13 Action News show that the property was deemed unfit to live in on Monday. Code enforcement inspectors issued a 72-hour notice to correct multiple violations, citing the home as unsafe, decaying, dilapidated, unsanitary, and vermin-infested, posing serious health risks.

Neighbors reported that squatters continue to occupy the home despite the conditions. “They cleaned up, but theyu2019ve also brought more trash in,” said another resident. “The guy picks up trash, brings it home, and goes through it looking for treasures. Itu2019s just not contained.”

The water supply to the home was shut off in September, and police have been called to the property more than 23 times since October 2024. Judge Howe has given the owner and her attorney until February to appear in court or face an arrest warrant.
