Topeka Zoo Cancels Party for the Planet Due to Weather

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – The Topeka Zoo has canceled its Party for the Planet event because of a forecast of bad weather. The event was scheduled for Saturday, April 19, as part of Earth Day celebrations held on April 22.
Zoo officials decided to cancel the event to ensure the safety of visitors and staff following recent predictions for inclement weather. ‘We always prioritize the safety of our patrons and employees,’ zoo officials said.
In place of the canceled Party for the Planet, the zoo has rescheduled its Earth Day Clothing Drive. This drive will now coincide with the zoo’s celebration of World Oceans Day, set for Saturday, June 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
For anyone planning to donate, the zoo encourages contributions to local organizations or to hold onto items until the June event.
Additionally, participants in the Earth Day Art & Writing Contest, sponsored by Vaughn Pediatrics, will receive follow-up information via email from the zoo’s education department. The zoo is also working on ways to showcase the winners and honorable mentions on its website and social media platforms.
