A tornado alert has been issued for the southwestern regions of Quebec, particularly in the areas of Lachute and Saint-Jérôme. Residents are advised to take precautions as a severe thunderstorm capable of producing tornadoes is on the way.

The government warns that destructive winds, large hail, and heavy rain could also occur. An alert for severe storms has been issued across the rest of the southern province as well.

This afternoon’s weather conditions are favorable for the development of violent thunderstorms, which may lead to strong gusts, large hail, and intense rainfall. A tornado risk has also been highlighted by Environment Canada.

In the event of a tornado alert, the meteorological agency recommends that individuals stay indoors and seek shelter in the lowest room of their home, away from windows and exterior walls.

If you hear a rumbling noise, see a funnel cloud, or notice debris swirling near the ground, it’s important to take immediate cover. This advice is crucial for safety during such weather events.

Additionally, a wind advisory is currently in place for some areas of Nunavik. The town of Salluit could experience gusts reaching up to 100 km/h, which poses risks of injury or damage.

In Outaouais, a severe thunderstorm warning remains active for the Papineauville and Chénéville areas. Environment Canada is monitoring this situation closely, as the storm could produce gusts of up to 90 km/h, along with possible hail and heavy rain.

Every year, lightning strikes result in fatalities and injuries in Canada, highlighting the importance of staying informed and prepared during severe weather alerts.
