Holmes County Tornado Damage

HOLMES COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – A possible tornado struck the northeastern part of Holmes County on Saturday, damaging multiple homes and properties. The storm occurred around 11:30 a.m. in the Newberry Road area, according to officials.

The Holmes County Communications Center began receiving reports of the tornado shortly after it touched down. As the storm progressed, additional reports of damage came from Flowing Well Road, Bethlehem, and the Esto area.

First responders faced challenges reaching some affected locations, often needing to clear away downed trees and power lines in order to assist residents. Officials have confirmed that at least 18 homes or structures sustained damage, and there was one reported injury.

The Sheriff’s Office stated that all roads in the area are now passable, though large debris remains on the shoulders. Emergency teams from Holmes, Washington, Walton, and Jackson counties have been deployed to check roads and inspect homes for safety.

Citizens are urged to avoid any impacted areas while first responders complete their work. If anyone has sustained damage, they can contact the communications center at 850-547-3681, option 1, to reach the American Red Cross for assistance.

In response to the severe weather, Sheriff John Tate announced that a State of Emergency will be declared for Holmes County. He received confirmations from Senator Jay Trumbull and Representative Shane Abbott that Governor Ron DeSantis will support this declaration, which will aid in cleanup efforts and provide additional resources for residents recovering from the disaster.

Holmes County officials plan to meet on Sunday afternoon to finalize action steps in the aftermath of the tornado. In the meantime, they request patience from the public as recovery efforts begin and as power restoration efforts continue under challenging weather conditions.
