Tornado Strikes Selmer, Leaving Three Dead and Many Injured

SELMA, Tenn. — A devastating tornado struck Selmer early Thursday morning, claiming the lives of three individuals and injuring numerous others, according to the Selmer Police Department.
The tornado, which hit the area on April 3, 2025, caused extensive damage on New Bethel Road where all three fatalities occurred. In addition, McNairy County reported two additional deaths related to the storm, one also on New Bethel Road and another on Friendship Road.
Emergency responders transported 14 people from McNairy County to various hospitals in the region. Many more residents sought treatment at PrimeCare and Lifespan Health for injuries sustained during the storm.
The information reported is confirmed as of 5:30 p.m. on April 4, 2025, displaying the widespread impact of the severe weather. Local authorities are continuing to assess damage and assist affected families.
Selmer Mayor John Smith expressed condolences to the families of the victims, stating, “Our community is heartbroken over this tragedy. We are doing everything we can to support those affected and ensure their safety.”
The National Weather Service has urged residents to remain cautious in the aftermath of the storm as additional severe weather may impact the area.
