Tornado Warning Issued as Storms Approach Central Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. — A Tornado Warning has been issued for southwestern Lake County and northwestern Orange County until 9:30 a.m. A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Clermont and Ferndale, moving northeast at 35 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

FOX 35 Storm Team Meteorologist Brooks Garner has been providing live updates on Good Day Orlando, emphasizing the importance of seeking immediate shelter should the situation escalate. A tornado watch indicates the possibility of severe weather but does not guarantee a tornado will occur, while a tornado warning is issued when a tornado is imminent.

A severe thunderstorm is characterized by winds of 58 mph or greater and/or hail one inch in diameter or larger. Monday has been declared a FOX 35 Weather Impact Day for Central Florida, with concerns for heavy rain and gusty winds as a cold front moves into the region.

Despite calm and dry conditions early Monday morning, residents are advised to be cautious and prepared. The most significant chances for rain are expected in the late morning and midday, where heavy showers and strong winds are anticipated. A brief tornado or two could also develop, mainly affecting Brevard and Osceola counties.

Associated with this weather event, a Wind Advisory is in effect until 7 p.m., warning of gusts reaching up to 40 mph or more, which could occur even outside of ongoing showers or storms. Citizens are urged to secure outdoor furniture and other loose items.

As the storms roll through, temperatures are projected to dip into the upper 40s and low 50s by Tuesday morning, before warming up to the mid-80s by the end of the week. High pressure is expected to maintain dry conditions with plenty of sunshine following the storm system.
