Tornadoes Cause Disruptions in Broward County, Florida
On October 9, 2024, a tornado was observed touching ground near I-75 at Snake Road, close to the border of Broward and Collier counties in Florida. The tornado sighting was captured by traffic cameras, as motorists navigated the roads amidst swirling winds.
According to the National Weather Service, the tornado moved northward at speeds reaching up to 25 mph, crossing Interstate 95. In addition to this, a second tornado was reported near the Broward-Collier line, heightening concerns across the region.
Due to the heightened risk, a tornado warning was issued for western Broward County. Areas under this warning include Southwest Ranches, Coral Springs, and other western suburbs. Residents and drivers in these areas were advised to seek shelter and avoid roadways wherever possible.
The tornadoes emerged as Hurricane Milton approached Florida, expected to make landfall late on October 9. In anticipation, a tornado watch was put in place for Central Florida, South Florida, and the Florida Keys, remaining active until 9 p.m.
