North Texas Tornado Damage Aftermath

DALLAS – Severe weather swept through North Texas on Saturday night, resulting in at least 10 confirmed tornadoes across several counties. The National Weather Service (NWS) reported damage in Parker, Jack, Montague, and Hood counties.

NWS teams began assessing the damage on Monday, confirming multiple tornadoes during their survey. In Jack County alone, they identified two EF-0 tornadoes with estimated peak winds of 80 mph, along with a third EF-1 tornado estimated at 90 mph.

Erath County saw an EF-1 tornado with wind speeds reaching 110 mph, while Parker County reported another EF-1 with similar wind speeds. An EF-0 tornado was noted southwest of Weatherford, and a tornado near Adell awaits classification.

Hood County experienced more severe weather, with an EF-2 tornado recorded in the western part of the county, featuring estimated wind speeds of 115 mph. The NWS cautioned that further investigation could reveal additional tornadoes from Saturday night’s violent weather.

Residents in the affected areas described the chaos as tornadoes ripped through neighborhoods. One affected family in Millsap shared their experience with FOX 4, recalling how the storm shattered windows and wreaked havoc in seconds. “It happened so quick. It touched down at I-20… and it just happened so quick. And it was ‘WOAM!’ and then it was gone,” said Gary Wells.

Cleaning efforts began the following day, with many residents still in shock over the destruction. Anne-Marie Shallcross, another local resident, expressed her disbelief, saying, “It’s just amazing to see the severity of the damage and what it’s going to take to put everything back together.”

As storm assessments continue, at least one home was destroyed, and many others sustained substantial damage. Fire officials in Hood County reported that several houses near Weatherford were impacted, particularly near Tolar where damage was most severe.

The NWS is urging anyone with knowledge of storm damage to report it to local emergency management agencies. For now, the confirmed tornadoes have brought the seasonal total to 13 across North Texas as the community grapples with the aftermath.
