Tottenham, Aston Villa, Newcastle Pursue Striker Igor Thiago from Brentford
Brentford, England – Igor Thiago is generating interest from Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, and Newcastle United after an impressive start to the season. These clubs have reached out to Brentford in hopes of signing the 24-year-old Brazilian striker who has made a strong comeback after a challenging first season.
Thiago joined Brentford from Club Brugge in July 2024 but faced a difficult debut season due to two serious knee injuries. This season, however, he has shone, scoring six goals in 11 matches including notable performances against Manchester United and Liverpool, positioning him just behind Erling Haaland in the goalscoring charts.
Brentford now faces pressure to retain Thiago, especially after losing key players Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa during the summer. The club is not eager to see another top talent leave. Head coach Thomas Frank has voiced the need for a reliable goal scorer, and Thiago fits that requirement perfectly.
Unai Emery at Aston Villa views Thiago as an ideal addition to bolster competition for striker Ollie Watkins. Meanwhile, Newcastle, led by Eddie Howe, seeks more offensive power to enhance their attacking lineup despite having signed two strikers recently.
Despite the clubs’ inquiries, Brentford is set on holding onto their star forward. Thiago’s contract runs until the summer of 2029, and the Bees are committed to keeping him as they look to build a competitive team. ‘It’s a critical time for us, and we need to keep our best players,’ said a Brentford spokesperson.
As he continues to perform at a high level, Thiago’s name is emerging as one of the most talked-about players leading up to the January transfer window.
