Toy Story 5 to Explore Kids’ Fascination with Technology
Hey Toy Story fans! Exciting news has just dropped about Toy Story 5. During Disney’s recent D23 Expo, the creative head of Pixar, Pete Docter, took the stage to share some thrilling updates about our favorite characters like Buzz, Woody, and Jessie.
The big news? Andrew Stanton, the animation legend, has been confirmed as the director for this next installment. Plus, we got our first peek at some concept art that hints at what’s to come. It looks like the story will focus on how kids these days are way more into their screens than traditional toys.
Stanton mentioned that Toy Story 5 will dive into this very topic, saying it will tackle “what kids are obsessed with today: electronics.” In the concept artwork, Woody and his pals seem rather downcast as they sit at the end of a child’s bed, completely ignored while the kid is glued to a tablet.
Another intriguing teaser from the panel suggests we’ll see how Woody reconnects with his fellow toys after his big adventure with Bo Peep in the last film. Plus, there’s a hint about a group of rogue Buzz Lightyear toys causing some chaotic fun!
It’s clear that Stanton wants to approach this topic with depth, steering clear of simply saying, “screens are bad.” He has a knack for exploring the social impacts of technology through storytelling, as we saw in classics like Finding Nemo and Wall-E.
Stanton’s enthusiasm for the project was palpable when he stated, “Toys have some serious competition these days with phones, tablets, and technology everywhere. So, this time around, it’s toys vs. tech.” His understanding of what makes these characters resonate with audiences will be vital in this new chapter.
This new Toy Story adventure is set to hit theaters in the summer of 2026, and fans are already buzzing with excitement. If anyone can tackle the evolving relationship kids have with their playthings and technology, it’s definitely Andrew Stanton.
