Tiruchi Overbridge Construction

The overbridge near the Railway Junction in Tiruchi is slated for demolition as part of a significant infrastructure project. The current structure will be closed to traffic from Saturday midnight to allow for the construction of a new bridge, estimated to cost ₹11.50 crore. This development forms part of the second stage of the multi-level overbridge project, executed jointly by the Railways and the State Highways Department.

The district administration has laid out extensive traffic diversions due to the bridge’s closure. The existing overbridge, positioned above the bustling Tiruchi-Madurai railway line, will undergo a labor-intensive demolition. The bridge connects the Aristo roundabout with P&T Colony near Mannarpuram and incorporates arms leading to the railway junction and its rear entrance at Kallukuzhi.

The new overbridge is vital for linking the Central Bus Stand, Railway Junction, and Mannarpuram areas, which are heavily reliant on public transport. Consequently, the district’s Collector, M. Pradeep Kumar, has notified several traffic detours effective from Saturday midnight.

According to the announced plans, all heavy vehicles traveling to Dindigul from cities such as Chennai, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, and Salem will need to use the bypass on the Chennai-Madurai National Highway and proceed via Vannankovil to reach the Dindigul National Highway. The return journey will follow the same route.

Mofussil buses headed towards the Tiruchi Central Bus Stand will be rerouted. These buses from Chennai, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, and Salem will navigate through Mannarpuram, TVS Tollgate, Head Post Office Roundabout, Mutheryar Statue, Vestry School Junction, Collector Office, Periyamilaguparai, and VOC Road. Dindigul-bound buses from the Central Bus Stand will travel via VOC Road, Periyamilaguparai, and Gorimedu to access the Tiruchi-Dindigul NH, following the same path for their return.

Buses traveling to the Central Bus Stand from Madurai will detour through Mannarpuram, Aristo bridge (new road overbridge), and the Railway Junction, utilizing a rotary atop the flyover. The return route for these buses will include VOC Road, Kamarajar Statue Junction, the Aristo bridge, and Mannarpuram.

Furthermore, light vehicles and two-wheelers from Edamalaipattipudur and Crawford will navigate through the Aristo Bridge and Railway Junction to reach the Central Bus Stand. Conversely, light vehicles headed towards Mannarpuram and Edamalaipattipudur from the Central Bus Stand and Railway Junction must travel via the Kamarajar Statue and Aristo Bridge, with an additional U-turn required for those heading to Edamalaipattipudur.
