M4 Traffic Congestion Newport

Traffic on the eastbound carriageway of the M4 motorway has been temporarily held following a crash near junction 24, known as the Coldra, in Newport. The incident has resulted in significant delays during the busy morning rush hour, as reported by traffic monitoring system INRIX and observed through traffic cameras.

The collision occurred early Wednesday morning, with traffic halted from approximately 6:45 am on October 9. Subsequent images from Traffic Wales‘ live traffic cameras, captured at 7:15 am, show extensive gridlock leading up to the junction, indicating heavy congestion in the area.

Current data from INRIX suggests that delays have escalated to about 30 minutes, as one lane remains closed while authorities manage the situation. Tailbacks have been reported extending back to junction 27, affecting the flow of vehicles joining the M4 from adjacent routes such as the A449.

Local commuters are facing miles of queues as they approach the Coldra roundabout, a key connection point for drivers traveling towards High Cross and surrounding areas. The disruption has particularly impacted those traveling eastbound, with live traffic maps confirming extensive congestion.

The ongoing incident highlights the challenges faced by motorists during peak hours, exacerbated by unforeseen events such as this crash. Authorities continue to advise drivers to remain patient and to expect delays while efforts are made to clear the scene and restore normal traffic flow.
