Tragedy in Jamtara: Train Accident Claims Lives of Two Passengers
In a tragic incident in the district of Jamtara in Jharkhand, two passengers lost their lives as a local train ran over them at Kala Jharia railway station, as confirmed by Jamtara Deputy Commissioner Shashi Bhushan Mehra.
Jamtara sub-division police officer M Rahman reported that the accident occurred near Asansol in Jharkhand when passengers disembarked from a train on the wrong side and were hit by a local train on a separate line.
Railway officials stated that the event took place at 7 pm, with only two casualties reported. Two individuals walking on the tracks were tragically run over by a MEMU train, according to the Eastern Railway.
Contrary to early reports, media sources revealed that the two deceased were not passengers but pedestrians, and not victims of a train fire.
Kaushik Mitra, CPRO of the Eastern Railway, clarified that the incident occurred at least two kilometres away from where Train no 12254 (Anga Express) had initially stopped due to alarm chain pulling. A 3-member committee has been formed to investigate the matter.
Local MLA Irfan Ansari expressed his intention to visit the site and address the issue in the Assembly, while search and rescue efforts continue in coordination with medical teams and ambulances.
SDM Anant Kumar reported that near the Asansol crossing, some passengers alighted from a train and were struck by another local train. Authorities are still determining the cause of the accident.
Rescue operations are ongoing, with efforts concentrated at Kala Jharia in Jamtara to address the consequences of this tragic train accident.
